FARIDABAD

Faridabad was founded in 1607 A.D. by Sheikh Farid, treasurer of Jahangir, with the object of protecting the highway, which passed through the town. Shaikh Farid built a fort, a tank and a mosque, which are now in ruins. Later, it became the headquarters of a pargana, which was held in jagir by the Ballabgarh ruler. Faridabad became 12th district of Haryana state on 15th August, 1979.

Faridabad is also a major industrial hub of Haryana. Faridabad is famous for henna production from the agricultural sector, while tractors, motorcycles, switch gears, refrigerators, shoes, tyres and garments constitute its primary industrial products.

Faridabad is about 25 kms. from Delhi. It is bounded by Delhi (National Capital) on its north, Gurgaon district on the west, Palwal district on the south and state of Uttar Pradesh on its east. Delhi-Mathura National Highway No. 2 (SherShah Suri Marg) passes through the middle of district. It has a railway station on the Delhi-Mathura broad-gauge line of the Indian Railway.

Linking Roads: Delhi-Agra National Highway No.2 (SherShah Suri Marg) passes through centre of District. Faridabad is located on both sides of the Delhi-Mathura National Highway No. 2.

By Rail

Faridabad is one of the satellite towns of Haryana in NCR adjoining Delhi. It is situated on the Delhi-Agra-Gwalior highway. It is connected with high speed Rajdhani and Shatabadi trains or Express trains to all major cities of India. It has its own railway station besides its proximity with the Nizamuddin Railway Station, New Delhi Railway Station & Old Delhi Railway Station.

There is a bus terminal in Faridabad besides its close proximity with the ISBT, New Delhi. There are frequent services along Faridabad-Delhi-Ambala-Chandigarh/Amritsar/Shimla route, Delhi-Faridabad-Mathura-Agra route and Faridabad-Delhi-Gurgaon-Jaipur route.
