Ancient Site of Farmana
The mound (920×50) has 8.00 mts. of habitational deposit. The excavation at the site was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Vasant Shinde of Deccan College, Pune, Prof Toshiki Osada of Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto, Japan and Prof. Manmohan Kumar of Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
Period-I (3500-2600 BC) The relics of this period belong to Hakka culture characterised by dwellings and pottery tradition similar to Bhirrana (district Fatehabad).
Period-II (2500-2000 BC) A well-planned habitation came into being in this period, which belongs to the Harappan culture. The bricks (in the ratio of 1:2:4) have been used in the construction of the settlement. The excavations have yielded besides typical Harappan pottery, the steatite seal with buffalo, a sealing with unicorn and pictographic script, copper spear-heads, arrow-heads and bangles, terracotta bull, bangles, triangular and circular cakes; beads of bone, shell, steatite and other semi-precious stones. Besides this, seven human burials have been found damaged due to cultivation and these belong to different categories of the burial systems of Harappan times. These include funeral pottery and some ornaments in the form of beads of different materials.
