1987-88 The glitter of the Melas began in 1987. The Suraj Kund Crafts Melas, played up no particular theme. The mud plastered Mela Chaupal, shehnai and the entry gates came to be built. 2000 Theme State : Jammu & Kashmir. The year 2000 saw a replica of the Dargah of Shah Hamdan from the master motif when Jammu & Kashmir was selected as the theme State.

1989 Theme State: Rajasthan (The deeply colourful Shekhawati wall mural tradition of Rajasthan came to be celebrated as the main theme. A Haveli and gate held up a mirror to architectural patterns of Rajasthan.

1995 Theme State: Punjab. The master motif for 1995 was the year 1891 at the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh who ruled the theme state, Punjab, celebrated at the Mela by the regal Ram Bagh Palace gate.
